The complete guide to the Diction Flow browser extension

The Diction Flow extension turns subtitles on YouTube, Netflix, Coursera, Udemy, Prime Video and more into an interactive dictionary. This guide covers everything it can do.

Installation

Install from the Chrome Web Store (or load the package from our download page), then sign in with your Diction Flow account. A small icon appears next to the player controls on supported sites.

Core features

• Hover to translate. Move your cursor over any subtitle word: the video pauses, a popup shows the translation. Move away and playback resumes.
• One-click save. Click the word to add it to your word book, together with the sentence and the video it came from.
• Dual subtitles. Show the original language and your native language at the same time — great for beginners.
• Subtitle navigation. Jump to the previous or next subtitle line, or replay the current one, with arrow keys.

Power features

• Custom subtitle files. Have your own .srt or .vtt file? Load it onto any video.
• Translation provider choice. Google Translate works out of the box; DeepL, OpenAI and others can be configured with your own API key in settings.
• Font, size and position of subtitles are fully adjustable — drag them anywhere on the video.

A workflow that works

Watch actively, save 5–15 words per session, and open the dashboard the next day to review. The extension feeds the same spaced-repetition system as the desktop app, so everything you capture ends up in one place.
